2006 Goose Bay Sauvignon Blanc

Marlborough, New Zealand

Serve with:

Whitefish, salads

When I started recommending wines a couple of decades ago, I never figured I'd be putting my seal of approval on a kosher white wine from New Zealand. But times change, and this is not your Great-Uncle Sol's Passover beverage. It's a pure, dry New Zealand sauvignon blanc with all the palate-awakening zest that implies. There are hints of gooseberry, juniper, citrus and tropical fruit and a tossed salad of herbs. It's not a style for everyone -- New Zealand wines seldom are -- but it's an excellent representative of its type.
