Player of the Year Simone Egwu Arundel

Egwu, 6 feet 3, is a powerful centerpiece for the county's best team. The senior is an exceptional shooter, hitting 62.3 percent of her shots from the field and 83 percent from the line.

She averaged 16.1 points and 10.4 rebounds for the Anne Arundel County champs and Class 4A state runners-up. In the county final, a 78-51 win over Old Mill, she scored 17 points. The No. 3 Wildcats relied on her power inside, which was complemented with the finesse of 6-foot-4 teammate Sheronne Vails.

Egwu, who had 14 points and 18 rebounds in a win over Largo at the IAABO Tournament, already has scored 1,000 career points and is on pace to finish second on the school's all-time scoring chart. Coach of the Year Chuck Miller Severn

In his eighth year with the No. 12 Admirals, Miller guided a young team to the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference championship and a 23-3 season.

The Admirals started two sophomores and two juniors, but they swept all B Conference opponents and won games against Anne Arundel County foes Annapolis and Old Mill. Miller regularly plays county public schools teams, he said, because they toughen the Admirals for their conference action. He hasn't had a losing year since his first season at Severn, and he gives the players all the credit.

Miller, who is recovering from hip replacement surgery last month, has guided the Admirals to three B Conference crowns. The team

Boys track

Performer of the Year Justin Murdock Meade

Murdock was one of the nation's top sprinters last winter with Glen Burnie, and he repeated the feat this year after transferring to Meade.

The senior capped the indoor season by finishing second in the 55 and third in the 200 in the National Scholastic meet in New York two weeks ago.

Murdock took second in the 55 and 300 in the Class 3A state meet to help Meade win the title, and he was ranked nationally in several events this winter.

Coach of the Year Nigel Holder Meade

He guided the Mustangs to the Class 3A indoor state title this past winter after having led them to the Class 4A outdoor crown last spring.

Holder had a solid group of talent, which he molded into a team that knew how to score points in all kinds of places. The Mustangs won the indoor title despite winning just one event, showing just how much depth they had.

Performer of the Year Jessica Tongue Annapolis

The senior continued to develop into one of the area's top sprinters. She won the 55 and 300 meters at the county meet, and then captured the 55 in the Class 3A Central regional meet.

Tongue finished third in the 55 at the state meet and combined with Torrie Saunders to give the Panthers plenty of points all season.

Coach of the Year Ira Queen Arundel

The Wildcats took fourth in the county meet, but they followed that with a victory in the Class 4A Central regional meet.

Queen's team scored 74 points that day to beat good teams such as Dulaney, Chesapeake-AA and Old Mill.

Wrestler of the Year Bubby Graham Annapolis

Graham concluded a marvelous career by winning a third consecutive state championship and his last 97 matches. Graham pinned North Harford's Tom Stewart in the Class 4A-3A 160-pound final, his third pin in four state tournament bouts.

One of four metro-area wrestlers who were undefeated state champions, Graham finished his senior year at 36-0 after going 32-0 as the 152-pound state champ as a junior. He won the 145-pound state title as a sophomore.

Graham was 121-8 in his four-year varsity career. An outstanding student with a 4.25 grade point average and 2,000 SAT score, Graham will continue his wrestling career at American University.
