Chamber plans Columbia gathering
The Howard County Chamber of Commerce will present its 2008 Small Business Conference from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 15 at Howard Community College's Business Training Center, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia.
The conference, sponsored by Provident Bank, will focus on sales and marketing for business growth.
Gloria Mayfield Banks, a Harvard MBA and the subject of a Harvard Business School study, will share strategies that helped her produce results for products ranging from computers to Mary Kay Cosmetics.
Registration, networking and a continental breakfast are to start at 7:30 a.m. The program is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. The cost is $55 for chamber members; $75 for nonmembers.

Med Spa receives $220,000 loan
J-ref, a small-business financier in Howard County, recently lent $220,000 to Luna's Med Spa, an extension of the services offered by Luna's Day Spa in Ellicott City.
The loan will be used for laser equipment, leasehold improvements and working capital. Med Spa will use laser equipment to provide minimally invasive or noninvasive aesthetic medical procedures.
