Girls Basketball

Player of the Year

B.J. Williams

Seton Keough

The Gators' senior floor leader ran perhaps the area's most versatile offense with precision and creativity.

A crowd-pleaser with dazzling moves to the basket, the 5-foot-7 guard saw the court exceptionally well and made seemingly impossible passes through the tightest lanes. With the ball in her hands, Williams conquered almost every opposing press. She could also hit the three-pointer and was a key to the No. 2 Gators' devastating defensive pressure.

Williams, who is headed for Temple, averaged nine points and six assists for the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference runners up.

Coach of the Year

Kendall Peace

Poly

The Engineers certainly had a fine regular season, but just about everyone expected it to end in the regional final against then-No. 7 City. Everyone except Peace and the Engineers.

They upset City, 49-38, and went all the way to the Class 2A state final, where they fell in a game that was tight for three quarters, 55-40, to undefeated No. 4 Mount Hebron. Some of the No. 10 Engineers had been to the state semifinals the previous year, but few saw much action, so Peace drilled them in defense and taking care of the ball, and the girls responded.
