Man, 20, is charged in sex assault on girl, 14

March 08, 2008

A Southwest Baltimore man who was soliciting services as a home-improvement contractor has been charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl after forcing his way into her Gambrills home, Anne Arundel County police said.

The victim told police that she was home alone when she answered a knock on the door at her family's Winterhaven Drive home about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, expecting to find her cousin there.

Instead, an unfamiliar man asked if he could use the bathroom. She refused, and he grabbed her by the shoulders and began kissing her. Police said he continued to sexually assault her until she was able to push him out of the house.

Neighbors told police the man was with a group soliciting home-improvement services and gave the detectives a description. Others in the group identified the suspect, police said.

Antwaun Sumpter, 20, of the 5300 block of Jamestowne Court, was arrested in Prince George's County on Thursday and charged with burglary, assault and a sex offense, police said.
