Goucher 10, St. Vincent 5 -- The host Gophers went 5-for-6 on extra-man opportunities in their win over the Bearcats. Goucher (2-0) was trailing 2-1 late in the first quarter before Dave Duff and Brian Hoge (Arundel) scored during a three-minute penalty on St. Vincent for an illegal stick. Another extra-man goal by Duff 4:57 into the second period put Goucher ahead, 4-2. After the Bearcats (0-2) came back to tie the score at 4, the Gophers went ahead on a man-down goal by Adam Pietrocarlo with 3:32 remaining before halftime. Duff contributed three goals and Sam Fitzpatrick added two goals and three assists for the Gophers.

McDaniel 21, Moravian 3 -- Gibbs Preston (McDonogh) recorded a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists to lead the Green Terror (1-0) past the host Greyhounds (1-2). Matt Buschman (Calvert Hall) had five goals and an assist for McDaniel. McDaniel scored at least 20 goals in its season opener for the second straight year.

Washington College 15, Virginia Wesleyan 9 -- Senior attackman Chris Read (Boys' Latin) scored five goals in the host Shoremen's win over the Marlins (1-2). Four other players had multiple-point games for Washington (3-0).

Villa Julie 19, Messiah 13 -- Steve Kazimer scored a game-high nine goals to power the host Mustangs (2-0) past the Falcons (0-2). Richard Ford (Towson) added three goals and Drew Brady four assists for Villa Julie, which scored 12 second-half goals.

Nation

No. 7 Notre Dame 7, No. 12 Albany 6 -- Peter Christman scored with 23 seconds remaining to lift the host Irish (3-0) over the Great Danes (0-1) and extend their school-record home winning streak to 15 games. Junior attackman Duncan Swezey led the Irish with a game-high and career-high tying four goals. Corey Small scored three times for Albany.
