Five years ago today, Baltimore saw the first flakes in what would become the biggest snowstorm here since snow records began in 1883. Before it ended Feb. 18, 28.2 inches fell at BWI. Forecasters had predicted 7 inches for the 16th, a Sunday. But more than 21 inches fell, paralyzing transportation and closing schools for the week. February snow totaled 40.5 inches, the snowiest month on record, ending the second-snowiest winter, at 58.1 inches. For articles and photos, visit baltimoresun.com/snowstorm.
