A Cecil County judge has sentenced a Delaware man involved in a March car accident that caused the death of a friend.
Jose Rivas, 28, of Wilmington pleaded guilty this week to negligent homicide and was sentenced to six months in prison. The crash occurred at Delancy Road and Courtney Drive in Elkton.
Authorities said Rivas was driving with three men in his car when the car went off the road and hit a light pole. Carlos Maldonado, also of Wilmington, died of his injuries nearly three weeks later.

O'Malley to survey damage from fire
Gov. Martin O'Malley is expected to visit Cambridge tomorrow to survey the damage from the Jan. 15 fire along Race Street and to discuss state assistance with the recovery effort.
His itinerary is expected to include a private tour. City officials and members of the nonprofit Cambridge Main Street civic group will accompany him.
The fire in the 400 block of Race St. destroyed two antiques stores. Plans call for a steel brace to stabilize the historic facades until the buildings can be reconstructed. Two adjacent buildings were damaged during the fire.
