Shooting -- A man, 23, was shot in the upper right leg about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of W. North Ave. and was being treated at Maryland General Hospital. Police responding to shots fired on the street were unable to find the victim until they learned that he and a friend were given a ride to the hospital. Police said the victim was not cooperating with detectives and that no arrest had been made.

Robbery try/shooting -- A woman, 42, and a friend were walking in the 2000 block of W. Lexington St., near North Payson Street, about 1 p.m. yesterday when a boy between 14 and 15 and armed with a handgun attempted to rob them. The youth shot the victim in the upper right leg and fled before taking any property or money from either person. The victim was taken by a Fire Department ambulance to Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was treated for a wound that was not life-threatening. No arrest had been made.

Armed robbery -- Two men, both wearing black masks and one armed with a handgun, robbed a man, 36, of nearly $100 and personal property in the 1300 block of Harford Ave. about 8 p.m. Tuesday. There were no arrests.
Burglary -- Someone broke into McCall's grocery store in the 1400 block of N. Bond St. between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning after knocking a hole in the wall of an adjoining vacant building and stole a carton of cigarettes, 12 toothbrushes and 12 tubes of toothpaste.

Robbery/arrest -- A 20-year-old Johns Hopkins University student was walking in the 3000 block of Guilford Ave. about 8 p.m. Tuesday when a man robbed him of $15 while implying he was armed with a handgun. After receiving a description of the robber, Officer William O'Donnell observed a man fitting the description walking in the 2900 block of N. Calvert St. and detained him. After an investigation, police charged Waynes Mines, 47, of the 300 block of E. 30th St. with armed robbery and related offenses. Mines was being held at Central Booking and Intake Center.
Robbery try -- Police were seeking a gunman who attempted to rob Popeye's Chicken in the 5000 block of York Road in Govans about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, but fled without taking any money when an employee cried out and fled.
