Poe birthday

Celebrate the poet's 199th birthday during a two-day event hosted by the Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum. The program includes theatrical presentations, actors dressed up as Poe and characters from his poems, and an apple-cider toast. The Edgar Allan Poe Society will sponsor an exhibit that includes a piece of Poe's coffin, a chair that used to belong to the poet, and locks of his and his wife Virginia's hair. At the conclusion of the birthday weekend, raffle winners will win a specially designed Poe birthday cake or one of several items from the Poe House gift shop.

On Saturday, doors open at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m. Sunday's portion begins at 4:30 p.m.; doors open at 3:30 p.m. The event is at Westminster Hall, 519 W. Fayette St. Tickets are $20-$25 at the door. Discount advanced tickets are available. This event is not open to children 10 and younger.
