Vitamin boost with the juice

TAKEOUT

January 09, 2008|By ROB KASPER

Maybe it was the sight of all those fat Florida oranges being tossed in the air by the Kansas Jayhawks football players as they celebrated their televised victory over Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl. Or maybe it was the knowledge that when the worst of winter hits here, luscious oranges imported from sunny climes arrive in the produce aisle. Or maybe I just needed a big dose of vitamin C.

For whatever reason, I woke up the other morning craving fresh-squeezed orange juice. I hit the juice-bar trail. Here is what I found. As you'll see, good health comes at a high price.

Zia's

Hours: --7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday

Another very large serving, 24 ounces of fresh-squeezed juice. At $6.01 it would have been my best bargain, but one of the oranges in the mix had turned sour.
