It was Wells' 500th win overall at St. Frances, including seven years as the Panthers' Catholic Youth Organization coach and two seasons as junior varsity coach before he started with the varsity program in 1988-89.
No. 1 Mount St. Joseph 64, St. Maria Goretti 34 -- Eric Atkins and Henry Sims combined for 25 points as the Gaels (11-1) beat the visiting Vikings. Mount St. Joseph led 31-9 at the half and never trailed.
No. 11 Towson Catholic 63, McDonogh 50 -- Vincent Breckenridge scored 18 points and LeShon Edwards had 16 to lift the host Owls (5-9). McDonogh's Gerrard Sheppard scored 22 points.
No. 13 John Carroll 55, Archbishop Spalding 49 -- The visiting Patriots (11-5) went 7-for-10 from the free-throw line down the stretch to beat the Cavaliers (5-8) in overtime. John Carroll trailed 45-43 with 16 seconds left in regulation when Isaiah Philmore went 2-for-2 from the line to force overtime.
