Flowering in France

My Best Shot

January 06, 2008

While touring in Alsace, we learned that there is an annual competition among the small towns and villages in France for an award based on the quality of their floral displays. A town can be awarded one to four "flowers" as an indication of how well it has done, and Colmar, where this picture was taken, is a four-flower city. The reason is apparent. This setting is an area called "Little Venice," made up almost entirely of restaurants and shops, all decorated just as this picture shows.
