Group to aid cancer patients' kids

Upper Chesapeake Health has started a new support group for children whose parents or grandparents have cancer, called CLIMB (Children's Lives include Moments of Bravery).

The group will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center

The support group will also meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 15, Jan. 22 and Jan. 29 at the Walter and Betty Ward YMCA in Abingdon.

Patients to explore energy healing

Upper Chesapeake Health has started a new support group for those affected by cancer who are interested in exploring energy healing.

Energy healing is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation to promote healing.

The group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

Diabetes support slated in Aberdeen

Upper Chesapeake Health will offer a parish nurse diabetes support group at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 15 at the Aberdeen Senior Center.

Info session set on gastric banding

Upper Chesapeake Health will offer a free information session on laparoscopic gastric banding, a new procedure in the Bariatric Surgery Program.

The session will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at Harford Memorial Hospital in the Havre de Grace Room.

Seminar to discuss joint pain

Upper Chesapeake Health will hold a free seminar on joint pain with Dr. William Cook, an orthopedic surgeon, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 15 at Harford Memorial Hospital in the side section of the cafeteria.

Participants can learn how to improve their quality of life and hear discussions on different options for individuals suffering with joint pain.

Cancer support is topic Jan. 15

Upper Chesapeake Health has a new cancer support group for individuals who have been diagnosed with any type of cancer and patients' families.

The group will meet at 2 p.m. Jan. 15 at Harford Memorial Hospital.

Discuss pandemic at `docs' dinner

Upper Chesapeake Health will hold a "Dining With Docs" dinner, lecture and discussion at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 16 in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center's Chesapeake Conference Center.

Vickie Ensor-Bands, a registered nurse, will discuss "Pandemic: What It Is and How It Will Affect You." A pandemic is a global disease outbreak.

A flu pandemic occurs when a new influenza virus emerges for which people have little or no immunity, and for which there is no vaccine.

The cost is $5 (cash only). Reservations are required.
