The Atholton girls basketball team was pushed to the closing seconds against young and determined River Hill last night, watching Hawks sophomore guard Alex Vega's three-point try at the buzzer hit the back of the rim before a 58-55 home win was secure.

The No. 5 Raiders (8-2) received a game-high 22 points from guard Elie Snyder and 11 points each from fellow seniors Brittany Coughlan, Taylor Chapman and Julianne Conroy to overcome a strong all-around performance from the No. 15 Hawks, who fell to 9-2.

Coughlan came up with a key steal with five seconds left and then hit one free throw before Vega missed from the left side at the buzzer.

"Definitely our defense in the last five minutes was a key - we got some critical steals in the end, and that helped us out. We weren't playing as a team very well in the second half, but we were able to pull it out," Snyder said.

No. 1 Seton Keough 82, Notre Dame Prep 22 -- Asya Bussie had a game-high 23 points to power the host Gators (14-2) past the Blazers. Arika Ullman added 19 points for Seton Keough, which never trailed.

No. 4 Randallstown 86, Milford Mill 60 -- The Rams showed why they are the highest-ranked team in Baltimore County, blowing out the visiting Millers. The Rams, playing an up-tempo style, built a 55-29 halftime lead. Randallstown forced the Millers into numerous turnovers with its man-to-man defense. Milford Mill didn't help its cause, making errant passes and allowing the speedy Rams guards to get out on fast breaks. Six Randallstown players scored in double figures, with Tione Womack leading the way with 14 points. Alex Jackson had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Milford Mill's Xavier Drake scored a game-high 15 points.

No. 3 Lake Clifton 60, Friendship 46 -- Cleveland Melvin posted a double double (13 points, 10 rebounds) to lead the Lakers (8-1) past the Knights of Washington. Daniel Horton added 13 points and eight rebounds.

No. 8 Mervo 51, Southwestern 31 -- Byron Westmoreland and Karon Richardson scored 10 points each to power the visiting Mustangs (7-2) past the Sabers. Mervo outscored Southwestern 20-9 in the third quarter.
