No. 15 Arundel tops Edgewood in tournament

Wildcats to face host Glen Burnie tonight for event championship

Jordan Benson scored 23 points and the No. 15 Arundel boys basketball team beat Edgewood, 83-47, in the opening round of the J.T. Bogel Invitational at Glen Burnie yesterday. Arundel (5-1) faces host Glen Burnie in tonight's championship at 6:45 p.m. The Rams (5-1) face South River in the consolation game at 5 p.m.

Glen Burnie 76, South River 53 -- Danny Murphy (23 points, 10 blocks) led three players in double digits as the host Gophers (5-1) beat the Seahawks (2-4) in the J.T. Bogel Invitational. Glen Burnie extended its one-point halftime lead, 30-29, by going on a 26-15 scoring run in the third quarter. Jarbez Pearce added 16 points for Glen Burnie.

No. 4 Randallstown 65, Tatnall 53 -- Alex Jackson led all scorers with 22 points as the Rams (4-1) beat the Hornets in the opening round of the Bay Ball Classic in Lewes, Del. Randallstown led by as many as 10 points before Tatnall cut the lead to eight in the third quarter. Randallstown plays Gwynn Park in today's semifinal at 6 p.m. Tione Womack added 12 points, and Marcus Jeter had 11.

Woodlawn 72, Reginald Lewis 49 -- Darius Nesmith scored 23 points to power the host Warriors (3-2) past the Falcons in the first round of the Woodlawn Holiday Classic. Woodlawn built a 57-31 lead by halftime. Woodlawn and Forest Park play in today's championship at 5:30 p.m.

Franklin 67, Fallston 62 -- Durant Harvin scored 20 of his game-high 24 in the second half to lead the Indians (1-6) past the Cougars in the first round of the North Carroll Holiday Tournament. Franklin's Antonious Dickey scored 16.

Archbishop Carroll (Pa.) 68, Calvert Hall 57 -- Jon Graham had a game-high 19 points in a losing effort for the Cardinals (5-5) in the first round of the Holiday Classic Tournament in Salisbury.

Long Reach 53, Richard Montgomery 47 -- Obi Ukwuoma had 18 points and 13 rebounds as the Lightning (7-0) beat the Rockets in the first round of the Paint Branch Invitational. Long Reach faces Howard in tonight's final at 7 p.m.

Girls

Notre Dame Prep 56, Carver A&T 18 -- Lauren Mazzone scored 12 points, and the visiting Blazers (3-5) beat the Wildcats in the opening round of the North Carroll Christmas Tournament. Fallston beat Century, 47-45, in the other game. Notre Dame Prep and Fallston vie for today's championship at 4:30 p.m.
