Andrew J. Gorman Sr.

[ Age 86 ] Supermarket manager and World War II veteran

Andrew J. Gorman Sr., a retired supermarket assistant manager, died of stroke complications Friday at his son's Eldersburg home. He was 86.

Born in Catonsville, he attended Baltimore County public schools. He worked on a farm as a young man and later joined the old Food Fair grocery chain. During World War II, he served in the Army in the Panama Canal Zone.

After the war, he returned to the grocery store and became a manager of grocery departments for Food Fair and later Pantry Pride. He retired as assistant manager and had worked at stores in Woodmoor and Reisterstown.

Mr. Gorman enjoyed gardening and shared his vegetables with family and friends.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road in Winfield.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Margaret M. Henn; three sons, Andrew J. Gorman Jr. of Timonium, Joseph S. Gorman of Eldersburg and Timothy L. Gorman of Glen Rock, Pa.; two brothers, James S. Gorman of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Calvert D. Gorman of Odenton; and numerous grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
