December 24, 2007

Marilyn F. Mayden, a retired Social Security Administration worker and active church member, died of cancer Wednesday at Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center. The Garrison Avenue resident was 54.

Marilyn Faye Moore was born in Tarboro, N.C., and raised on West Garrison Avenue. She was a 1972 graduate of Northwestern High School.

Mrs. Moore, a disability examiner, worked at the SSA's Woodlawn headquarters until retiring this year because of her failing health.

She was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, a member of the usher board, sang with the choir, and was a member of The Boosters, a church organization.

"The church was her hobby," said her husband of five years, Edward B. Mayden, a nursing home worker.

Services were held Saturday.

Also surviving, are a son, Michael Jackson of Baltimore; two brothers, Gregory Moore of Ohio and Mike Moore of Rosedale; a sister, Kathy Eanes of Woodlawn; and a grandson.
