Simms, Mt. St. Joe beat Gibbons, 66-56

Henry Simms grabbed 20 rebounds and scored 14 points as top-ranked Mount St. Joseph beat visiting Cardinal Gibbons, 66-56, last night.

The Crusaders (4-5) were able to hang with the Gaels (6-0) early and found themselves down, 29-28, at the half.

No. 2 St. Frances 60, St. Maria Goretti 45 -- Wayne Sparrow and Sean Mosley combined for 36 points as the visiting Panthers (8-2) beat the Gaels (5-3). Sparrow scored all 20 of his points in the first half.

No. 3 Towson Catholic 67, St. John's-CP 61 -- Brandon Greene had a game-high 20 points to power the Owls (3-5) past the Vikings. St. John's led 20-13 after the first quarter before Towson Catholic rallied.

FOR THE RECORD - In Saturday's Sports section, the last name of Mount St. Joseph basketball player Henry Sims was misspelled.

No. 13 Mount Carmel 67, St. Vincent Pallotti 60 -- Troy Franklin had 23 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cougars (10-1) over the Panthers. Rummell King added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Girls

No. 13 Archbishop Spalding 63, Notre Dame Prep 34 -- Jordan Clinton had 19 points to lead the Cavaliers (8-2) past the Blazers.
