Emergency network appoints Lasky

Mary D. Lasky has been appointed vice chairwoman of the Howard County Community Emergency Response Network, a 60-member volunteer organization focused on communitywide disaster planning.

"We are very pleased that Mary has stepped forward to assume this role," said Richard M. Krieg, chairman of the emergency network and president of the Horizon Foundation.

Lasky is program manager for business continuity planning for the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, and her job includes planning the laboratory's pandemic influenza response.

She also coordinates the APL Incident Management Team, which is responsible for managing any disaster that disrupts normal operations for more than 48 hours.

The network's mission is to initiate development of a communitywide disaster-response plan to ensure preparedness in the event of a terrorist attack or major natural emergency.

Lasky is also chairwoman of the Pandemic Influenza Education and Communication Group for the Johns Hopkins Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response, which is responsible for pandemic planning for all the Hopkins institutions.

She is an adjunct faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering, teaching in the technical management graduate degree program.
