BOYS BASKETBALL

Long Reach @ River Hill

WHEN -- Today, 5:30 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- Look for much of the same from the state champion Hawks -- tough defense, swift ball movement and plenty of three-pointers. Senior G Zach Serleth, who hit 42 three-pointers last season, will lead a balanced Hawks offense, with Kevin McCarthy supplying strong inside play. The Lightning have good size and athleticism, led by versatile senior F Obi Ukwuoma, but will need time to come together with four of last year's five starters lost to graduation.

THE SUN'S PICK -- Long Reach.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mount Hebron @ Oakland Mills

WHEN -- Today, 5:30 p.m. OUTLOOKThe Vikings made an early-season statement with a dominating 59-27 victory over county rival River Hill in their Dec. 8 season opener. A key was the pressure defense on the Hawks' overwhelmed guards. Can the Scorpions' talented backcourt of Miriam McKenzie and Nicole Hill hold down the fort? The Scorpions have four starters back from last year's team that enjoyed a breakout season.

THE SUN'S PICK -- Mount Hebron.

WRESTLING

Glenelg @ La Plata

WHEN -- Tomorrow, 7 p.m. OUTLOOKThe Gladiators' challenging schedule takes them to La Plata in Charles County in a match against the two-time defending Class 4A-3A state dual meet champions. Glenelg finished fifth in McDonogh's Ray Oliver Tournament on Dec. 7 to open the season and will lean on the strong middle-weight corps of seniors Brian Marcoux (125 pounds), Chris Stinnett (130) and Dan Bichner (135).

THE SUN'S PICK -- Glenelg.
