Elkridge construction project is delayed

A county construction project to connect Montgomery Road to Marshalee Drive in Elkridge has been delayed because of inclement weather and is now scheduled to begin on or about Thursday.

Montgomery Road will be closed temporarily in the vicinity of 6425 Montgomery, between -- but not including -- Montery Road and Deborah Jean Drive.

The closure could last two or three weeks, depending on the weather.

Band concert set at Mount Hebron

Mount Hebron High School students will present a band concert featuring the Dixieland jazz combo, jazz ensemble and symphonic winds at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. A second concert featuring the symphonic band and wind ensemble will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Around Town

Santa and missus -- Santa and Mrs. Claus are visiting Elkridge on a fire engine through tomorrow, weather permitting. When neighbors hear "Jingle Bells" played on the engine's air horn, they are invited to gather at the nearest street corner to meet and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The fire department is collecting canned food for the needy and wrapped gifts, which should be marked boy or girl with the appropriate age. Capt. Rob Lisle, 410-984-2101.

The Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring its 17th Christmas food drive and is seeking donations, which are tax-deductible. Checks should be made payable to the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department, in care of the Christmas Food Drive. Donations can be brought to the fire station (6275 Old Washington Road) or given to Santa when he visits neighborhoods. Canned sweet potatoes, sauerkraut, vegetables, gravy and cranberry sauce, turkeys, hams, desserts, butter and margarine, juices, stuffing and other boxed nonperishable items will be accepted. Tree sale -- The Mount Hebron High School Viking Backers are sponsoring a Christmas tree sale in front of the school, 9440 Route 99, Ellicott City. Hours are 2:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Prices range from $35 to $90. Larger trees are available for higher prices. Tree sizes range from 4 feet to 11 feet. Tree stands, wreaths, garlands, roping and bows also are available, and trees can be tied on the purchaser's vehicle on request. 410-313-2880.

Knitting for charity -- A community-service group meets to knit and crochet blankets, baby clothes and other items for charities, hospitals and senior centers.
