Ravens Weekend

December 14, 2007|By GLENN GRAHAM

PLAY OF THE WEEK

Drew Brees, New Orleans vs. Arizona -- Better late than never, Brees could become the productive fantasy quarterback everyone expected when he was taken high in drafts. Coming off a 328-yard, three-touchdown effort against Atlanta, he has another solid matchup at home against the Cardinals with the Saints making a push for the playoffs.

QUARTERBACK

STARTING NOD -- Brett Favre, Green Bay at St. Louis: After injuring his elbow and shoulder against Dallas two weeks back, Favre looked fine in the Packers' win over Oakland on Sunday. Expect big numbers in a high-scoring game at St. Louis.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- Tony Romo, Dallas; Derek Anderson, Cleveland; Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle.

NOT THIS WEEK -- Jon Kitna, Detroit; David Garrard, Jacksonville; Vince Young, Tennessee.

RUNNING BACK

STARTING NOD -- Joseph Addai, Indianapolis at Oakland: Addai has provided 1,293 total yards of offense and 14 touchdowns this season.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- Willis McGahee, Ravens; Ryan Grant, Green Bay; Earnest Graham, Tampa Bay.

NOT THIS WEEK -- Fred Jackson, Buffalo; Thomas Jones, New York Jets; Warrick Dunn, Atlanta.

WIDE RECEIVER

STARTING NOD -- Greg Jennings, Green Bay at St. Louis: Jennings (46 catches, 812 yards, 11 touchdowns) has scored at least one touchdown in nine of the 11 games he has played this season.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- Chad Johnson, Cincinnati; Wes Welker, New England; Braylon Edwards, Cleveland.

NOT THIS WEEK -- Santonio Holmes, Pittsburgh; Isaac Bruce, St. Louis; Reggie Williams, Jacksonville.

TIGHT END

STARTING NOD -- Antonio Gates, San Diego vs. Detroit: Gates will have a hard time matching the 15 catches Jason Witten hauled in against the Lions last week, but a highly-productive outing should be expected, nonetheless.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- Tony Gonzalez, Kansas City; Kellen Winslow, Cleveland; Dallas Clark, Indianapolis.

NOT THIS WEEK -- Alge Crumpler, Atlanta; Eric Johnson, New Orleans; L.J. Smith, Philadelphia.

KICKER

STARTING NOD -- Matt Stover, Ravens at Miami: How many times has Stover rescued the Ravens?

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

STARTING NOD -- Tampa Bay vs. Atlanta: The Buccaneers will be up against an unprepared Atlanta team that saw its coach, Bobby Petrino, unexpectedly leave for the University of Arkansas on Tuesday.

Last week's tab

Play of the week -- Adrian Peterson, Minnesota: 14 carries, 3 yards.

Quarterback -- Tony Romo, Dallas: 35-for-44, 302 yards, two TDs.

Running back -- Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia: 20 carries, 116 yards; five catches, 38 yards, one TD.

Wide receiver -- T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Cincinnati: eight catches, 52 yards; one carry, eight yards.

Tight end -- Jason Witten, Dallas: 15 catches, 138 yards, one TD.

Kicker -- Nick Folk, Dallas: four extra points.
