Offensive player

Nick Elko

Elko was the leader of the Wildcats' no-huddle spread offense, leading the Class 4A state runners-up in both passing and rushing, in addition to handling the place-kicking and punting chores. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior set state public school season records for touchdown passes (40), pass attempts, completions and passing yards. Elko completed 260 of 430 passes for 3,091 yards and nine interceptions. He also ran for 817 yards and 10 touchdowns, kicked five field goals and 38 extra points and had a punting average of 38 yards on 46 attempts. His ability to make the big play passing or running was one of the main reasons the Wildcats went undefeated during the regular season and won county and 4A East regional titles.

Defensive Player

Sean Price

Severna Park

Price was a force on both sides of the football, but especially at linebacker for the Falcons (6-4), who missed the postseason by a few playoff points. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior punished ball-carriers with aggressive hits as he stalked opponents from sideline to sideline. Price, who was named the Falcons' defensive Most Valuable Player, made preparation laborious for opposing coaches, who planned their offenses around him. Price led the Falcons in tackles with 82, 9.5 behind the line of scrimmage, and had 2.5 sacks. He anchored a defensive unit that gave up 121 points (12.1 per game) and had two shutouts.

Coach of the Year

Chuck Markiewicz

Markiewicz led the No. 4 Wildcats (13-1) to their first state final since 1979 and the schools' fourth undefeated regular season. An innovator whose run-and-shoot offense spread to other schools when he led North County to a state title in 1994, Markiewicz has introduced the no-huddle spread offense in recent years at Arundel, his alma mater. The no-huddle has resulted in five consecutive playoff berths in his seven seasons at Arundel.
