McDonogh wrestling rolls

The top-ranked McDonogh wrestling team made a bold opening statement at Loyola yesterday, accumulating seven pins in its Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference season debut for a dominating 62-15 win over the No. 14 Dons.

Josh Johns (125), Ben Levin (130), Albert Woody (135), Josh Fitch (140) and Ben Sataloff (145) registered consecutive pins to help give the Eagles a 39-0 lead before Shane Milam (160) and Kramer Whitelaw (171) added pins for the defending league champs.

The Eagles' 103-pound wrestler, Mitch Bode, was bumped up to 112 and earned an 8-4 decision over Kevin Frantz to give the visitors a positive start.

Boys basketball

No. 3 St. Frances 57, McDonogh 53 -- The Panthers' Sean Mosley and the Eagles' Gerrard Sheppard both scored 34 points.

St. Mary's 76, Pallotti 75 -- Josh Morgan-Green and Nick Groce combined for nine of the 10 overtime points to lift the host Saints (3-1) over the Panthers (1-1). St. Mary's had a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Lake Clifton 63, Forest Park 36 -- Derius Gilmore had 23 points and eight assists to lead the Lakers past the host Foresters.

Broadneck 69, Eastern Tech 36 -- Kevin Hunt had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the host Bruins (3-0) past the Mavericks. J.J. Hicks added 15 points and led the team with four steals.
