Player of the Year

Hope Battista

South River

Battista's skill and leadership on defense were main reasons why the Seahawks went 14-0 in the regular season and allowed just six goals. Relentless in the backfield, the senior made smart decisions and showed the poise and patience required of a top-notch defender. She led the Seahawks to the Class 4A East regional final, in which they had a strong showing before falling to Severna Park in a shootout. Battista scored a goal in the shootout - one of seven goals she scored this season, mostly on penalty corners. But defense was her specialty. She made three stick saves and helped the Seahawks record 10 shutouts.

Coach of the Year

Jen Parks

In her second season as coach, Parks guided the Bruins to a near-perfect Anne Arundel County season. Broadneck lost only one game, to South River, but avenged it in the county final. The Bruins also defeated Severna Park for the first time in 17 years. Parks challenged her players to work hard, and they responded. "My ethic is, `The harder you work the more you achieve,' and they bought into that," said Parks, who is 27-4-1 in her career. "They understood they were not going to win the county championship or the state championship just because they're good."
