Ravens Weekend

December 07, 2007|By GLENN GRAHAM

PLAY OF THE WEEK

Adrian Peterson, Minnesota at San Francisco -- The rookie sensation showed he's healthy with last week's 116-yard, two-touchdown performance in a win over Detroit. Look for him to get the ball more against an overmatched 49ers defense.

QUARTERBACK

STARTING NOD -- Tony Romo, Dallas at Detroit: Look for big numbers from Romo and the rest of the Cowboys, who are rested and primed to dominate the struggling Lions.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- Carson Palmer, Cincinnati; Drew Brees, New Orleans; Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle.

NOT THIS WEEK -- Donovan McNabb, Philadelphia; Kurt Warner, Arizona; Philip Rivers, San Diego.

RUNNING BACK

STARTING NOD -- Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia vs. New York Giants: Westbrook (1,598 total yards) has scored eight touchdowns in the past six games and will be the focal point of the Eagles' offense.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- Ryan Grant, Green Bay; Jamal Lewis, Cleveland; Rudi Johnson, Cincinnati.

NOT THIS WEEK -- Kevin Jones, Detroit; DeShaun Foster, Carolina; Thomas Jones, New York Jets.

WIDE RECEIVER

STARTING NOD -- T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Cincinnati vs. St. Louis: Look for Houshmandzadeh's production to pick up against St. Louis. He has 88 catches for 914 yards and 11 touchdowns, but only one touchdown catch in the past four games.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- Braylon Edwards, Cleveland; Marques Colston, New Orleans; Terrell Owens, Dallas.

NOT THIS WEEK -- Chris Chambers, San Diego; Mike Furrey, Detroit; Jerry Porter, Oakland.

TIGHT END

STARTING NOD -- Jason Witten, Dallas at Detroit: Playing the 31st-ranked pass defense that has yielded 10 passing touchdowns in the past four games should bode well for Witten, who has 65 catches for 817 yards and six touchdowns this season.

OTHER SOLID OPTIONS -- Kellen Winslow, Cleveland; Owen Daniels, Houston; Dallas Clark, Indianapolis.

NOT THIS WEEK -- Vernon Davis, San Francisco; Desmond Clark, Chicago; Randy McMichael, St. Louis.

KICKER

STARTING NOD -- Nick Folk, Dallas at Detroit: After hitting all three field-goal tries and four extra points in a win against Green Bay, Folk should be busy again when the Cowboys go indoors to play at Detroit.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

STARTING NOD -- Minnesota at San Francisco: The Vikings' defense/special teams has dominated the past two games, getting six turnovers and six sacks, with touchdowns coming on interception and kick returns in both weeks.

Last week's tab

Play of the week -- LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego: 23 carries, 177 yards, two TDs; three catches, 20 yards.

Quarterback -- Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh: 21-for-32, 184 yards, two TDs, two interceptions.

Running back -- Steven Jackson, St. Louis: 20 carries, 96 yards, one TD; four catches, 71 yards.

Wide receiver -- Marques Colston, New Orleans: two catches, 39 yards.

Tight end -- Chris Cooley, Washington: seven catches, 89 yards.

Kicker -- Phil Dawson, Cleveland: 2-for-2 field goals, one extra point.
