Chamber to hear economic forecast

The Howard County Chamber of Commerce will hold its second Economic Forecast Breakfast at 8 a.m. today at the Sheraton Columbia Hotel.

A panel of local and national experts will discuss economic indicators and forecasts for the coming year. On the panel are Richard Alter of Manekin LLC, Steve Adler of Savage Mills, Larry Davis of Aronson Capital Partners and Suzi Padgett of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage's Columbia office.

Jeffery Schappe of BB&T will speak about the national outlook. BB&T is the presenting sponsor for the event. Initial results of the chamber's economic forecast survey will be presented.

The cost is $35 for a member; $45 for a nonmember, with a $5 surcharge for tickets purchased at the door.

Business classes set for next year

The Howard County Center for Business and Technology Development's Business Resource Center will offer a series of seminars next year.

"Smart Start to Business Success," a program for first-time entrepreneurs, will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 9 at the center, 9250 Bendix Road North, Columbia. The cost is $45.

"Developing Your Business Plan" is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the same location. The program, to be led by Vincent J. Mallozzi, president of International Marketing Systems, is designed for first-time small business entrepreneurs. The cost is $149; a sample business plan, text book and other materials are included.
