Runners to watch girls

Seton Keough

The versatile performer won Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland titles in the 55 meters and triple jump last winter, and also helped the Gators win the team title.

Kristen Brown

McDonogh

Brown moves from basketball to indoor track and should give the already strong Eagles a boost with her athleticism. The sophomore was a strong hurdler last spring and co-coach Jeff Sanborn said she did 11 feet 3 in the pole vault this summer.

Kellie Christian

Catonsville

The junior is looking to follow up on a strong outdoor season that concluded with winning the Class 3A state title in the 300.

Katie Harman

River Hill

The junior isdeveloping into one of the area's top distance runners, coming off a strong cross country season that included an impressive win in the Class 2A state title race last month.

Jess Huber

North Carroll

Huber, a senior, showed amazing consistency last year en route to a second straight Class 3A-2A state title, winning the key meets and helping the Panthers take the team crown.

Kristen Malloy

Hereford

Malloy just keeps getting better. The junior finished second in the 3,200 in the Class 3A-2A state meet last year and won the Class 3A state title in cross country this fall.

Michelle Newman

Eastern Tech

The senior broke through last spring, winning the long and triple jumps at the Class 2A state meet outdoors and taking second in the 200.

Torrie Saunders

Annapolis

Saunders, a senior, took second in the Class 3A-2A in the 55 dash and 55 hurdles and ran on two relay teams for the Panthers.

Colleen Shea

Seton Keough

The senior won the 500 and 800 meters last year to help Seton Keough upset McDonogh for the IAAM team championship.

Jessica Tongue

Annapolis

One of the state's top sprinters, Tongue won the Class 3A-2A state title in the 55 meters and ran on two relay teams. The senior combines with Torrie Saunders to give Annapolis a strong 1-2 punch in sprints and relays.
