Barbara J. Murray, 67

Accomplished cook

December 04, 2007

Barbara Jean Murray, a homemaker and accomplished cook, died Nov. 25 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where she had been briefly hospitalized for lung cancer. She was 67.

Barbara Wise was born in Fairmont, W.Va., and graduated cum laude from Ohio University in 1962, where she met her future husband of 45 years, Richard W. Murray.

They married several months later and, when Mr. Murray was transferred to a new position with the U.S. Shoe Corp., the couple moved in 1976 to the Berrywood neighborhood of Severna Park.

Mrs. Murray was an avid reader and a member of the Sparrows Point Country Club.

But it was her cooking that "became almost a lifestyle for her," said Mr. Murray. "She was extraordinarily talented, and, as a result, all three of her sons are high-quality cooks now, too."

A Methodist funeral was held Thursday.

Survivors include three sons, Christopher W. Murray of Joppa, Jeffrey C. Murray of Baltimore and Michael R. Murray of Severna Park; a sister, Carolyn W. Christensen of Destin, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
