Pre-GED advising offered at college

Harford Community College will offer Pre-GED Advising Sessions for adults who want to improve their basic reading, writing or math skills.

Free Adult Basic Education review classes and one-on-one literacy tutoring programs for beginning readers are available.

Advising sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. at these locations:

Tomorrow at the college's Edgewood Hall.

Tuesday at Edgewood and Havre de Grace high schools.

Wednesday at Wilson Community Center in Darlington.

Thursday at North Harford High.

Dec. 11 at Fallston Hall Room 208 HCC.

10 a.m. Thursday at the Edgewood library.

Attending an advising session is required for entry to the program's classes.

Training offered in health fields

Cecil College is offering a free information session about training options for careers in the allied health field from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Room 326 of Elkton Station, 107 Railroad Ave.

The college offers full-time and part-time training programs for medical assistants and receptionists, medical coders/billers, dental assistants, medicine aides, certified nursing assistants and phlebotomists.

Full-time programs can be completed in less than one year.

The college also will hold a free College Information and Career Advising Session from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Elkton Station.

Advisers from the college will talk to prospective students about training programs, workplace-readiness classes and financial aid.

Library to begin science program

Harford County Public Library will celebrate the opening of the LEAP (Learn, Explore and Play): Science is Fun! program at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Edgewood branch, 629 Edgewood Road.

LEAP is a science enrichment program for children in grades three through eight based at the Edgewood Branch.

Programs offered for gifted, talented

Harford Friends School will present Neetu Dhawan-Gray, coordinator of the Center for Talent Identification of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. She will provide an overview of CTY programs.
