Eira Reese Dorn, a homemaker active in her church, died of congestive heart failure Monday at a daughter's Columbia home. The former Ten Hills resident was 93.
Born Eira Reese in Scranton, Pa., and raised in Frostburg, she was a 1932 graduate of Frostburg High School. In 1936, she married Griffith Byrd Dorn, a regional vice president for the Jewel Tea Co.
They moved to Baltimore in 1948 and lived for many years on North Chapel Gate Lane.
Mrs. Dorn had been a member of University Baptist Church on North Charles Street and taught Bible classes. She also was a past president of the church's Children's Aid Society. She also worked closely with the Salvation Army.
Mrs. Dorn was a past president of the Ten Hills Women's Club, and until recently, she did baking for homeless shelters in Baltimore.
Services were held yesterday at New Hope Lutheran Church in Columbia, where she had been a member for the past decade.
Survivors include two sons, Griffith B. Dorn Jr. of Ellicott City and David T. Dorn of Laurel; two daughters, Linda A. Vandenberge of Ellicott City and Nancy Kalin of Columbia; a brother, Richard Reese of Sarasota, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 2003.
