Metro area-teams with 12-0 records ranked among the top six in The Sun's poll. In addition to No. 4 Arundel, No. 1 River Hill followed by No. 2 Dunbar, No. 5 Hereford and No. 6 Eastern Tech all are 12-0.


Players on the Southern field hockey team, meaning it had just two substitutes. The Bulldogs went 9-7 under coach Lauren Leukhardt, a 2001 Southern graduate who has rejuvenated the program. Leukhardt has led the Bulldogs to three straight winning seasons.


Goals for for Annapolis junior boys soccer forward Taylor Brummit, who also had two assists.


Career wins for Arundel football coach Chuck Markiewicz, who is 150-75. The county record is held by the late Al Laramore, who went 156-68-2 in 23 seasons at Annapolis. Glen Burnie and South River coach Joe Papetti is second to Laramore at 154-81-3 in 24 seasons, with Markiewicz, in his 20th season, third.


Kills by Kelly Galligan of Archbishop Spalding in leading the Cavaliers (16-4) to the Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference volleyball final.


Combined total of kills (118) and digs (111) this season by Severna Park volleyball hitter Brittany Lilley. Lilley is also one of the county's top basketball players.


Year that Arundel won the county's first football state title. The Wildcats' only state football title came under the late Jerry Mears in a 13-7 win over Parkdale. Mears had a coaching staff that included Bernie Walter (Arundel's current athletic director and baseball coach), Buddy Hepfer, who would succeed Mears, and Bill Zucco, who would later succeed Hepfer. Hepfer and Zucco, who was succeeded by Chuck Markiewicz, are retired.
