179 Main St., Annapolis

Open 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday

Annapolis isn't just for tourists anymore.

Realizing that the Historic District was ready to move beyond its T-shirt shop roots, Jessica Jordan opened Paradigm.

"Annapolis needed a fun boutique with clothing at approachable prices," said Jordan, who worked previously for the state legislature and for the state Board of Elections as its chief financial officer.

"We have quite a range of men's and women's clothing, but the items we carry are ones we think are smart. You can wear them to work and then for cocktails after work."

Jordan carries BCBGMaxazria, Ben Sherman, Velvet, French Connection, Goldsign jeans, Original Penguin and ABS by Allen Schwartz, brands that appeal to those who want style with sophistication, but without maxing out the credit card.

The shop, which opened in August, is sleek, with wide-open wood floors, and chrome and glass fixtures, but with enormous crystal chandeliers as a counterpoint.

"We want our customers to have a glamorous experience," said Jordan. "But one they won't regret two days later."
