Community leaders retreat is looking for facilitators

The board of directors of the Oakland Mills Community Association is seeking people to conduct a daylong retreat for community leaders. The retreat is to be held in January.

Anyone with experience in organizational planning and group facilitation is encouraged to submit a letter of interest and a resume to the board.

Exchange program to teach Photoshop

The Columbia Community Exchange, formerly known as Columbia Association Network, will offer a two-part Photoshop class from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Dec. 8 at The Barn in Oakland Mills Village Center.

Textbooks, which are optional, can be purchased separately.

The class is open to members of the community exchange, a community-based "time-banking" program offered by the Columbia Association to provide an opportunity for neighbors to help one another by exchanging services. "Time dollars," rather than money, are the medium of exchange.

Seeking volunteers -- The A-OK (Assisting Our Kids) men- toring/tutoring program, a project of Oakland Mills Interfaith Center, is recruiting and training volunteer mentors and tutors to work in elementary and middle schools with individual children and small groups. Opportunities are available during school hours, after school and in elementary school homework clubs. Jazz -- UUCC Jazz Connection, a group that meets once a month to listen to and discuss jazz, will present an open rehearsal of the Chalice Messengers at 6 p.m. tomorrow in Meeting Room B at Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way. Chamber ballet -- Columbia Chamber Ballet, the performing company of Ballet With Cindee Velle of Long Reach, will offer a series of abbreviated, one-hour Nutcracker performances for all ages. The production includes a battle scene with mice, soldiers, and the Nutcracker and the Mouse Queen. Local performances are planned for:
