Holiday Mart craft show set Saturday at Centennial High

The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will hold its Holiday Mart, a juried craft show, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Centennial High School, 4300 Centennial Lane, Ellicott City.

More than 125 artisans will show and sell hand-crafted gifts and decor for the holidays at the 35th anniversary show.

Entertainment, door prizes, a children's craft corner and photographs with Frosty also are planned.

The Centennial Madrigal Singers will perform.

Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase.

Underage drinking is topic of program

The PTSA of Mount Hebron High School will present a program on combating underage drinking in homes, schools and communities at 7 p.m. Dec. 4.

Officer Mark Heron of the Howard County Police Department will discuss consequences teens face if cited for drinking, what happens when adults serve alcohol to minors, how to report alcohol parties and other issues. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.

Clauses to host meal, visit with children

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will share a pancake breakfast and visit with children of all ages from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Dec. 8 at Tersiguel's French Country Restaurant in Ellicott City.

The cost is $5 for children to age 6; $7 for ages 6 and older.

Reservations are requested. Tickets might be available at the door, if space permits.

Holiday prize -- Ellicott City Restoration Foundation Inc. will sponsor a holiday window-decorating contest for retail businesses in the town's historic district. Judges will choose a winner, and a "people's choice award" will be determined by popular ballot. Retail businesses must fill out and submit an official entry form and have the display in place on or before Saturday. A winner will be announced Dec. 9. The winner will receive a quarter-page advertisement in the July/August issue of Maryland Life Magazine, courtesy of the Howard County Tourism Council. Ballots for the people's choice award will be available around town, and visitors can vote until Dec. 10. The winner will receive a quarter-page ad in the Ellicott City Visitors Guide.
