Class 4A North regional final Thomas Johnson (9-2) @No. 10 Perry Hall (10-1)

When -- Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook -- Both teams are coming off exciting semifinal wins, with the host Gators outlasting a good North Carroll team, 28-21. Thomas Johnson defeated Linganore, 21-19, on Jake Nichols' 22-yard field goal with eight seconds left. The Patriots will play in their first regional final since 1997. The Gators lost to Sherwood in last year's regional final.

Class 3A North regional final Catonsville (8-3) @No. 5 Hereford (11-0)

When -- Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook -- The Bulls have rolled up a state-leading 506 points and have given up just 135. They routed Mervo in the regional semifinals, 63-0. Nick DePaola scored four touchdowns. The Bulls rolled over Catonsville, 56-0, in the regular season. The Comets advanced with a 31-0 rout of Franklin, as QB Darius Savage ran for two touchdowns and passed for another. Hereford is going for its fourth state title and its first since 2002.

Class 2A North regional final No. 12 Edmondson (9-2) vs. No. 7 Eastern Tech (11-0)

When -- Friday, 7 p.m.

Where -- CCBC-Essex

Outlook -- Edmondson, the defending Class 2A state champion, is coming off a 20-14 victory over No. 13 City on Saturday. QB Carroll Washington ran 13 yards in the second overtime to advance the Red Storm to the regional final against the undefeated Mavericks, who squeaked by then-No. 13 Poly, 20-12. Derryck Davis scored on a 4-yard run with 1:16 left to lift Eastern Tech. The Mavericks have outscored their opponents 428-59 and have recorded three shutouts. Edmondson has outscored its opponents 272-188.

Class 1A South regional final Surrattsville (10-1) vs. No. 2 Dunbar (11-0)

Where -- Poly

When -- Saturday, 1 p.m.

Outlook -- This matchup features two prolific offenses led by two quality backs, and two stingy defenses. Dunbar's Tavon Austin has scored 33 touchdowns and run for 2,098 yards. Poets QB Jonathan Perry has thrown for 1,627 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. Defending 1A state champion Dunbar routed Forestville, 66-29, in the regional semifinals and has outscored its opposition 468-110. The Hornets are led by Davin Meggett, son of former Towson State and NFL star David Meggett. The Hornets routed Digital Harbor, 44-0, in their regional semifinal and have outscored their opponents 440-101.

By the numbers

10 -- Points per game given up by Dunbar. The Poets' offense gets a lot of praise but the defense has been just as sound, led by linebackers Keon Redhead and Tevin Brown.

21 -- Plays run by North Carroll in the final quarter of its 28-21 loss at No. 10 Perry Hall in Saturday's Class 4A North semifinal.

32 -- Goals scored this season by Catonsville striker Jessica Nonn, who finished her career by scoring a goal in a 2-1 state semifinal loss to Wilde Lake.

56 -- Points accumulated by Matt Tyrie, a junior striker from Redeemer Classical Christian School. He had 42 goals and 14 assists as the Royals went 21-0 and won the National Christian Schools Athletic Association national tournament.
