2 Fortune 300 firms going to Maple Lawn

Two Fortune 300 companies have signed leases for a total of 15,800 square feet at Maple Lawn, a mixed-use community in Fulton that will have more than 1.6 million square feet of commercial office space when it is completed.

The 600-acre project, which is also to include about 1,340 residential units and 180,000 square feet of retail space, is owned and developed by Greenebaum and Rose Associates.

The Guardian Life Insurance Co. will occupy 8,000 square feet at 8161 Maple Lawn Blvd., and Lincoln National Life Insurance is leasing 7,800 square feet in the same building. Both are expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2008.

Real estate team receives honor

Creig Northrop & The Northrop Team of Long & Foster Real Estate were honored as No. 2 in "Sales Volume by a Team" in the Real Estate Top 200 rankings sponsored by The Wall Street Journal, lore magazine and Real Trends.

The Northrop team sold 738 homes in 2006, logging $401,263,264 in sales volume.

The rankings were recently announced at the National Association of Realtors' annual conference in Las Vegas.

Howard Bank takes state banking award

Howard Bank has won top honors in the Maryland Bankers Association's 2007 Financial Education Awards.

The bank was recognized for its community-based programs for seniors and other adults. Its financial education initiative includes programs at the Small Business Development Center, Tai Sophia Institute, Howard Community College, the Domestic Violence Center, Congregations Concerned for the Homeless and its own seminars.

Howard Bank also was named 2007 Small Business of the Year by the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.

The bank has branches in the Village of Hickory Ridge, on Snowden River Parkway and on Johns Hopkins Road in Maple Lawn. A fourth branch is planned in Ellicott City.
