Interfaith service to be held tonight

Columbia Cooperative Ministry, an organization of 15 Christian congregations, will hold its 40th Interfaith Thanksgiving Eve Service at 7:30 tonight at The Meeting House, 5885 Robert Oliver Place, next to the Oakland Mills Village Center in Columbia.

The Rev. George Scheurich, former pastor at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Randallstown, will give the keynote address, "Being Thankful."

The children's choir of the Baha'i community of Howard County will perform. Refreshments will be served, and a freewill offering will be taken.

Hanukkah Book Fair set for next week

Gan Israel Preschool and Day Camp will hold its Hanukkah Book Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday through Nov. 29, and evenings by appointment, at the Lubavitch Center for Jewish Education, 770 Howes Lane, Columbia.

A large assortment of Jewish books for children and adults will be available to purchase.

Nativity sets to be displayed

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4100 St. Johns Lane, Ellicott City, will have a display of nativity sets from around the world, family heirloom nativities and nativities made by children.

More than 300 nativity sets will be displayed from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 30 and from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 1. Admission is free.

A Messiah sing-along is planned for 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the church. Free sheet music will be available for choral parts. People of all skill levels are welcome. Admission is free.

Thanksgiving Mass, reception tonight

The Shrine of St. Anthony, 12290 Folly Quarter Road, near Glenelg, will hold a Thanksgiving vigil Mass and reception at 7:30 tonight.

The Friars of the Shrine of St. Anthony will conduct the Mass and will dedicate the chapel's new organ.

A reception will be held in the Papal Dining Room.

Learn `The Truth About Hanukkah'

Rabbi Susan Grossman of Beth Shalom Congregation will offer a "Lunch and Learn" session at Howard Community College from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The topic is "The Truth About Hanukkah."

A chorus from Congregation Bet Aviv will perform Hanukkah music before and after the talk, and lunch will be served.

The event, which is sponsored by the Howard Community College Jewish Student Union, will be held in Room 100 of the English, Language Business Building (ELB-100), 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia.

LOGOS Ministry program scheduled

Registration is continuing for Christ United Methodist Church's Thursday evening LOGOS Ministry, being held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 29, Dec. 6 and 13, Jan. 10, 17, 24 and 31, Feb. 14, 21 and 28, and March 6 and 13 at Owen Brown Interfaith Center in Columbia.

The program for children ages 4 through high school and their families includes Bible study, family time, recreational activities and worship skills. There is a fee.

Channing Memorial offers discussions

Channing Memorial Church, Unitarian Universalist, and the Rev. Susan LaMar are offering "Contemplative Conversations" from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month in the church office, Suite 4, 3230 Bethany Lane, Ellicott City.

The group provides an opportunity for meditation and quiet conversation about the spiritual dimension of the lives of participants. After a 20-minute meditation, those who attend share conversation for an hour and meditate together for the last 10 minutes.

Everyone is welcome. Registration is not required.

Church schedules Christian aerobics

Body & Soul Christian Aerobics offers eight-week sessions of cardiovascular and strength training set to contemporary Christian music.

A class is offered at 9:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at South Columbia Baptist Church. There is a fee; a discount is available for new students.
