Banking and finance

Provident Bank announced the appointments of Elizabeth Ann Hehir, Katie Kong, both of the commercial division, Michael A. McShane, credit administration division, and Michael B. Vavreck, emerging business division, as vice presidents of the Baltimore-based regional bank.

Wachovia Corp. appointed Kelly Fox as assistant vice president and small business banker for Baltimore City and Joe Zajdel as vice president and small business banker for Baltimore County.

Slavie Federal Savings Bank announced that Tim Nichols joined the Bel Air-based financial institution as vice president/commercial lending.

Education

College of Notre Dame of Maryland named Ryan Griswold director of sports information and assistant athletic director for the Baltimore Catholic women's college.

Capitol College appointed W. Victor Maconachy as vice president and chief academic officer for the independent college in Laurel.

The Hyatt Regency Baltimore named Nathaniel Taylor assistant rooms executive at the Inner Harbor hotel.

The National Aquarium in Baltimore appointed Nancy Hotchkiss as the senior director of visitor experiences.

Hodes, Pessin & Katz PA said Mark F. Scurti joined the litigation department of the Towson-based regional law firm.

Under Armour Inc. appointed Suzanne Karkus as senior vice president of apparel for the Baltimore-based maker of performance clothing, accessories and footwear.

The Baltimore Sun Co. promoted Chris Pettograsso to local retail advertising director. He is responsible for conversion of the new tab zone sections, incorporation of Baltimore Sun Media Group sales and development of the local national account base.

Word Smith Media Ventures LLC, publisher of PressBox and PressBox Legends, said Steve Geppi, chief executive officer of Diamond Comics Distributors Inc., joined the firm's investor group.

WMAR-TV announced that meteorologist Doug Hall has joined the weather staff of the local ABC-TV affiliate.

Systems Alliance Inc. named Francis Swift as director of the Web effectiveness practice of the Sparks-based information technology and business consulting services company.

MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services announced that William Whitty III has joined the Lutherville-based firm as a real estate adviser in its Baltimore office.
