Travel to New York City to be a part of one of the most celebrated holiday events, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. More than 2 million people are expected to brave the cold in New York on Thursday to catch a glimpse of their favorite inflatable balloon as it soars over the 2 1/2 -mile route. The parade, which kicks off at 9 a.m., also features floats with celebrities and musical acts. This year's marching band lineup will include Baltimore's Marching Ravens, marking the first time an NFL band has been invited to perform. Spectators arrive early, especially for the prime viewing spots along Central Park West. The parade, which is held rain or shine, is free. The Parade starts at 77th Street and Central Park West, travels to Columbus Circle and onto Broadway, and turns onto Seventh Avenue. It ends at 34th Street in front of Macy's.

The inflating of the balloons can be seen the day before from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on 77th and 81st streets between Central Park West and Columbus Ave. For more information, call 212-494-4495.
