City road closings today

City officials have announced temporary lane closures and road repairs on sections of 21st Street and Guilford Avenue today.

Road repairs are scheduled on 21st Street between Barclay and Calvert streets from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Parents, teachers, and students traveling near Dallas F. Nicholas Sr. Elementary School are urged to use caution. No work will occur before school starts and all work is expected to be completed by the end of the school day.

Also today, Guilford Avenue will have temporary lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with the bulk of work between Saratoga and Lexington streets.

Work crews intend to keep at least two lanes open during construction.

City crews are performing curb repairs and replacing a deteriorated bus pad and utility structures.

Man dies in Harford crash

An Aberdeen man was killed Saturday after the Jeep pickup he was driving hit a parked dump truck on Route 156 in Churchville, state police said. William Harry Burkheimer, 62, was pronounced dead on arrival at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, police said. Police said Burkheimer was speeding east on Route 156, east of Mahan Road, about 5:40 p.m. when he hit the truck, which was parked on the side of the road, police said. The driver of the truck, William Thomas Moore Jr. of Churchville, was not injured.
