Carroll man accused of abusing baby sitter

A Carroll County man has been charged with sexually abusing a minor after an encounter with a baby sitter in early October, according to court documents.

Gregory M. Trakney, 39, of Taneytown was arrested after being questioned Monday at the Carroll County Advocacy and Investigation Center, which looks into allegations of sexual abuse and physical abuse of children, according to court records.

Trakney also was charged with a third-degree sex offense and with contributing to the condition of a child. At a hearing yesterday, bail was set at $100,000; Trakney was being held at the county detention center.

On Oct. 5, the baby sitter went to Trakney's house to watch two children and was to spend the night, according to court records. When Trakney returned home with other adults, he gave the sitter beer and "a shot of a peach flavored alcoholic drink," after which "she felt somewhat intoxicated," according to court records.

Later, Trackney and the minor "had sexual intercourse," but the sitter "stated that she told him to stop" and had said earlier that "she did not want to go any further," according to court records.

During questioning Monday, Trakney "admitted to having sex with the victim," and said "it was all consensual and that he was intoxicated during the incident," according to court records.

The minor's mother took her to the advocacy center to report the allegations, courts records show.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Dec. 6.
