Officer is injured in Route 2 collision

An Anne Arundel County police officer was seriously injured when his cruiser collided with a Ford truck, county police said.

Officer Kenneth E. Thalheimer was driving north on Route 2 about 11 p.m. Saturday when a 2002 pickup driven by Serena Yermiah Bigio, 35, of the 8100 block of Forest Glen Drive in Pasadena was trying to make a left turn from southbound Route 2 to South River Road South, police said. Bigio failed to yield the right of way and struck the police car, police said.

Thalheimer and a passenger in the Crown Victoria, Angelena Claggett, 36, of A Street in Lothian, were taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, with serious injuries.

Bigio and her passenger declined medical treatment.

Walker is assaulted on B&A Trail

A man was beaten and robbed on the B&A Trail in Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County police said.

The victim said he was walking on the trail next to Marley Station mall about 10 p.m. Friday when two young men approached him. One punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground, and both assaulted the victim and stole his cash and his cell phone before fleeing.

The first suspect was described as 18 or 19 years old, with brown hair and a military-style haircut, a large scar on his head and wearing a black jacket, jeans and a T-shirt.

The second was described as having a stocky build and wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt.

Woman's purse stolen in supermarket lot

A man snatched a woman's purse as she left a Laurel supermarket, Anne Arundel County police said.

The victim said she was leaving Shoppers Food Warehouse at in the 3400 block of Laurel-Fort Meade Road shortly after noon Saturday when a man approached and asked her whether she needed help loading her groceries into her vehicle. When she declined, the man ripped her purse out of her hands, causing the strap to break, and fled in a late-model burgundy Pontiac with a partial Virginia tag 6312.

He was described as 20 to 30 years old, 6 feet tall, weighing about 225 pounds, with facial hair and wearing a black sweat shirt and blue jeans.

Three are charged in purse-snatching

A Baltimore man and two teenagers were charged with a purse-snatching outside a Glen Burnie supermarket, Anne Arundel County police said.

A man approached the victim as she left the Giant Food store in the 7900 block of Ritchie Highway about 11:45 p.m. Friday and asked whether she needed help with her bags. When she declined, he grabbed her purse and she fell to the ground. He dropped the purse while fleeing.

Keith O. Parker, 20, of the 4500 block of Groveland Ave. and two boys, ages 16 and 17, were charged.

Annapolis man shot in stairwell

A man was shot in the leg in the Eastport Terrace public housing community, Annapolis police said.

The victim told police he was standing in a stairwell on the 1100 block of Medgar Evers St. about 10 p.m. Friday when he heard someone yell "Get out of the way!" He then heard two shots and felt pain in his leg. He ran into a building on Frederick Douglass Street and found that he had been shot in the leg.

He was treated at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

BP gas station robbed in Annapolis

An Annapolis gas station employee was robbed at gunpoint, city police said.

An employee of the BP station in the 900 block of West St. reported at 1:55 p.m. Sunday that a customer had made a purchase, then a second purchase. During the second transaction, while the cashier was making change, the man pulled a handgun and demanded money.

The cashier handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and the robber fled.

2 charged in robbery of skateboarders

An Annapolis man and a teenager were charged with taking two teenage skateboarders' wallets at gunpoint, Annapolis police said.

The teens told police that two men approached them and their friends about 4:15 p.m. Sunday in the lot of the Roof Center in the 1800 block of West St. and offered to sell them drugs. The teens refused. A few minutes later, the two men returned and picked up the wallet of one of the skateboarders from a nearby wall.

When one teen tried to retrieve his friend's wallet, one of the men pulled out a handgun and grabbed the boy by the throat. The other man dug into the victim's pocket and took his wallet, too. The robbers then ran off.

Officers arrested Shannon Blair, 21, and Leonard Simms, 17, who was charged as an adult. The two were charged with drug-related offenses and robbery.

Glen Burnie man robbed on his porch

A Glen Burnie man who working on a Brooklyn Park home was robbed at knifepoint, Anne Arundel County police said.

The 65-year-old victim said he was standing on the front porch of a home on the 4400 block of Ritchie Highway about 3:30 p.m. Monday when a man approached him and demanded cash, threatening him with a knife and a fork. The victim handed over his money and cell phone, and the robber fled north on a silver-colored mountain bike.
