FOOTBALL

North County @ Meade

WHEN -- Friday, 6:30 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- The Knights (5-4) are hoping to gain the fourth and final playoff berth in the Class 4A East regional, but they have to defeat Meade (1-8) and hope No. 15 Severna Park loses at No. 7 Broadneck on Saturday. North County is coming off a 20-7 win in Ferndale over South River and needs another fine defensive effort by Desmond Johnson, Dibo Quaye and Demetrio Fleet.

Severn vs. St. Mary's

WHEN -- Friday, 7 p.m.

WHEN -- Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium

OUTLOOK -- St. Mary's (6-3) needs a win in the River Classic to go to 7-1 in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference and clinch its first berth in the championship game Nov. 16 at Towson University. Saints junior QB Peter Athens, who threw for 285 yards and four touchdowns in a 32-6 rout of St. Paul's (5-5, 5-2) last Friday, needs another big game against the Admirals (3-6). A Saints victory would end a three-game losing streak against Severn. St. Mary's would likely play Archbishop Spalding (6-3, 6-1) in the B Conference final, with a home win over St. Vincent Pallotti (1-8).

No. 15 Severna Park @ No. 7 Broadneck

WHEN -- Saturday, 1 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- The visiting Falcons (6-3) get their chance to avenge last season's 41-0 loss to the Bruins (7-2). With a win, Severna Park clinches the fourth seed in Class 4A East after making the 3A playoffs the past four years.
