17 are arrested in crackdown

Wicomico County law enforcement officials made 17 arrests in five locations around the county during a two-day operation targeting drug activity.

The operation involving the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office and Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force took place Friday and Saturday and was sparked by residents' complaints about drug transactions.

Lt. Babe Wilson of the sheriff's office said that the increased visibility of drug transactions does not necessarily indicate a spike in drug use.

Wayward deer disrupts subway line

A deer that wandered onto the Metro's underground tracks in the Wheaton area caused delays yesterday on the Red Line.

Metro trains came to a stop for a time yesterday morning when the deer was discovered between the Forest Glen and Glenmont stations. A spokeswoman for the transit agency said the deer frightened passengers by coming onto the Metro platforms several times.

After about four hours of trying to remove the deer, Metro workers killed the animal so train service could resume.
