Worship service will honor members of the military

Glen Mar United Methodist Church will hold an evening worship service Nov. 11 to honor and thank those who have served in the military and to offer prayers for the men and women still in harm's way.

The service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the church, 8430 Glenmar Road, Ellicott City.

An offering will be taken to support the Wounded Warrior and Coming Home projects, which provide assistance to veterans.

Centennial to offer Shakespeare play

Centennial High School will present its version of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream at 7 p.m. Nov. 14, 15, 16 and 17 in the school auditorium.

Tickets are $8 in advance; $10 at the door.

Elkridge association to hear talk on parks

The Greater Elkridge Community Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Norbel School, 6135 Old Washington Road, Elkridge.

Gary J. Arthur, director of Howard County's Department of Recreation and Parks, will talk about the future of Rockburn and Troy Hill parks. Lynn Coddington will explain a plan to build a tennis center in Troy Hill park, and historian Joetta Cramm will discuss preserving the Anderson church site for archaeological investigation.

Around Town

At the library -- Elkridge Library, 6540 Washington Blvd., will offer help with homework or research projects for students ages 11 to 14 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. tomorrow. Snacks will be provided; registration is required.

"Cards for Our Troops," a chance for children ages 11 and older, to create holiday cards to express their gratitude to servicemen and servicewomen, is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 17. Materials and snacks will be provided. Registration is required.

The Elks Parent-Teen Book Club for ages 11 to 17 will discuss Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 20. Copies of the books will be available. Registration is not needed. 410-313-5077.

Grasses -- Master gardeners will discuss "Pretty Grasses for Your Garden" at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Miller Library, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City. Registration is required. 410-313-1950.`Godspell' -- Mount Hebron High School drama department will perform the musical Godspell at 7 p.m. Nov. 14, 15, 16 and 17 in the school auditorium. The cast and crew have dedicated the performances to the memory of Doug Dellinger, a 2005 Mount Hebron graduate who was killed Aug. 15 in an automobile accident. Tickets are $9: 410-313-2880.

Knitting for charity -- A community-service group meets to knit and crochet blankets, baby clothes and other items for charities, hospitals and senior centers from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at Kiwanis-Wallas Recreation Center. 410-313-7279.
