Library offers introduction to word-processing program

The east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, will offer an Introduction to Open Office Writer, a free word-processing program, at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Registration is required.

The library will present "Thanksgiving Countdown with the Chef," with Turf Valley Resort's Chef Russell Svoboda, at 7 p.m. Nov. 15.

Those who attend are invited to take a family recipe to share and get answers to questions about cooking turkeys. Registration is required.

Talkin' Baseball, a discussion group, will chat about baseball news at 9 a.m. Saturday at the library. No registration required.

Family Fun Bingo is planned Friday

The Kings Contrivance Community Association will hold a Family Fun Bingo from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Amherst House, 7251 Eden Brook Drive.

Seeking volunteers -- The A-OK (Assisting Our Kids) mentoring/tutoring program, a project of Oakland Mills Interfaith Center, is recruiting and training volunteer mentors and tutors to work in elementary and middle schools with individual children and small groups. Opportunities are available during school hours, after school and in elementary school homework clubs. Social skills -- Long Reach Community Association is offering "Stepping Out," a six-week session of classes in self-esteem and social skills for children ages 8 to 13. The classes will emphasize self-confident behavior, positive styles and attitudes and appropriate manners. Classes meet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, through Dec. 15, at Stonehouse in Long Reach Village Center. 50+ Center -- The East Columbia 50+ Center, in the east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, will offer a Harmonize Exercise class from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. 410-313-7680.

O.H. Laster, a personal fitness trainer, will teach a fitness method called "Stamina, Strength, Stretch and Synergy." Registration is continuing. The cost is $3 a class.

Reflexology - deep foot massage - is available between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Mondays. The cost is $40 for a 50-minute treatment. Appointments are also available between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Fridays.

Reiki treatments are available by appointment between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the first and third Fridays of each month. The gentle technique is said to restore physical, emotional and spiritual balance and harmony. The cost is $30 for a 55-minute treatment.

Jesse Barnes, dancer and fitness trainer, will teach soul line dancing from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The cost is $4 a class. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Registration is continuing.
