Matchups To Watch

Ravens Weekend

November 02, 2007|By MIKE PRESTON

SAMARI ROLLE RAVENS CB HT: 6-0 WT: 175 YEAR: 10

VS.

HINES WARD STEELERS WR HT: 6-0 WT: 205 YEAR: 10

Ward can hurt you in so many ways. He is tough and exceptional as a run blocker. He is fearless going across the middle and is quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's favorite target inside the red zone. Rolle missed three games because of an allergic reaction to medication, but he has played well in the past two. Rolle also has played surprisingly well in run support. He can run with Ward, but he'll struggle in press coverage at the line of scrimmage. EDGE: WARD

RAY LEWIS RAVENS LB HT: 6-1 WT: 250 YEAR: 12

VS.

WILLIE PARKER STEELERS RB HT: 5-10 WT: 209 YEAR: 4

Parker is deceiving. He isn't flashy and doesn't look extremely fast, but no one catches him from behind. He is durable and versatile, able to run inside and outside. The game is on national TV, so Lewis will be at his best. He can't take on blocks like he used to, but Lewis still runs well sideline to sideline. He'll be somewhere in the vicinity of Parker everywhere he goes Monday night. EDGE: LEWIS

HALOTI NGATA RAVENS DT HT: 6-4 WT: 340 YEAR: 2

VS

ALAN FANECA STEELERS G HT: 6-5 WT: 307 YEAR: 10

Faneca might be the best guard in the NFL. He is outstanding as a run blocker. He can knock you off the ball and is fast enough to work into the second level to take out a linebacker or safety. Ngata is exceptionally strong. He has played much better this season compared to a year ago when he was a rookie. If the Ravens want to stop the run, this is a matchup they have to win. EDGE: FANECA
