Michael A. Frederick, a retired railroader and truck driver, died of cancer Sunday at his Ellicott City home. He was 58.

Mr. Frederick was born and raised in Havre de Grace and was a 1967 graduate of Havre de Grace High School.

Grandson of a railroader who had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, Mr. Frederick began his railroad career as a trainman with the old Penn-Central in 1976.

He subsequently worked for Conrail, Amtrak and the Canton Railroad, from which he retired in 2006 on a medical disability.

Mr. Frederick had also been an owner-operator of a trucking company.

"He had one truck and primarily worked the East Coast and Midwest," said his uncle, Burk Martin, of Bowie.

Mr. Frederick enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a member of the Elks.

Earlier in his life, he had been a communicant of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Havre de Grace.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Zellman Mitchell Smith Funeral Home, 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace.

Also surviving are his wife of a few weeks, the former Uh Suk Kim; two aunts and many cousins.
